
I am an experienced and award-winning Counselling Psychologist, EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Practitioner, and Integrative / IFS Psychotherapist, with comprehensive doctoral training and over 14 years of experience providing therapy. I am also a Visiting Researcher at a London University and supervise doctoral psychology research.
I am dual trained as a counselling psychologist (relational, integrative, CBT, psychodynamic) and psychotherapist (humanistic, integrative). I am also trained in EMDR, DBR, systemic family therapy, internal family systems (IFS), ego-state therapy, emotionally focused therapy, narrative exposure therapy (NET), Islamic counselling, and community psychology.
I specialise in working with PTSD, complex trauma, complex PTSD, attachment related difficulties, complicated mourning and loss related issues (including traumatic bereavement).
I have held clinical roles in a variety of services including (NHS) Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service, Helen Bamber Foundation (human rights organisation), Solace Women’s Aid / Rape Crisis, The National Hospital for Neurology and Neuroscience, specialist NHS trauma services, university settings, third-sector, and NHS psychotherapy services.
I am trained and experienced in offering a variety of NICE-recommended trauma therapies for PTSD including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), NET, and trauma-focused CBT.
I keep up-to-date with the latest developments in psychotherapy and in the trauma field. I offer cutting-edge therapies that help to retrain your nervous system. I have completed all three levels of DBR training and advanced DBR continuing professional development. I’m experienced in offering DBR therapy including for complex trauma and dissociative presentations.
I have extensive experience of providing trauma therapy for survivors of complex trauma, who have been subjected to serious human rights violations (e.g. torture, war crimes, human trafficking, political persecution, organised violence, modern day slavery), gender-based violence, domestic abuse, childhood abuse, sexual abuse / violence, neglect, early / pre-verbal trauma, and traumatic loss / bereavement.
I am experienced in working with people from different faith and cultural backgrounds, integrating psychotherapeutic concepts with your belief system if this is important to you. I have a background in providing culturally sensitive and Islamic-informed psychological therapies (if requested).
I’m a Muslim trauma therapist / psychologist trained in Islamic counselling, who is experienced working with Muslim clients whose faith and spirituality are a resource, which they draw strength from and would like their faith incorporated into therapy. I am also experienced in working with Muslim clients whose faith and spirituality have been disrupted or negatively affected by adverse experiences, trauma, and spiritual abuse and would like to also tend to spiritual and faith aspects in their therapy.
As a Muslim EMDR therapist, I have published guidance on integrating Islamic-informed concepts with EMDR therapy for Muslim clients who would like their faith integrated into their therapy.
I have published guidance on providing therapy across cultures, with a particular focus on providing culturally sensitive therapy for South West Asian and North African (SWANA) communities and Islamic-informed psychological therapies.
I have co-developed and delivered culturally appropriate and Islamic-informed trauma and bereavement therapeutic groups for Muslim SWANA communities affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
